Five Quirky Facts to Know Before Super Bowl LX

With the Super Bowl just three days away, here’s five quirky facts that no one’s talking about that’ll make you the life of your Super Bowl party.

Drake Maye’s Name is on the Wrong Side of Super Bowl History

Though it Maye sound silly, the Patriots face a tough road towards their seventh Vince Lombardi Trophy because of their quarterback’s name, and for more reasons than one.

In the previous 59 Super Bowl’s, a starting quarterback whose last name is less than five letters has never won.

On top of that, starting quarterbacks whose first and last name end in the same letter are 0-6 in the big game.

As if two strikes against Drake Maye’s name wasn’t enough, there’s surprisingly a third. Super Bowl starting quarterbacks with the initials ‘D.M.’ are 0-2, with Dan Marino and Donovan McNabb each falling short in their Super Bowl appearances.

Will the Patriots’ Jersey Choice Pay Off?

As the “home” team of Super Bowl LX, New England had the opportunity to choose their uniform combination first.

The AFC champs decided they’ll rock their white jerseys with white pants, a decision that, unlike their quarterback’s name, has been on the right side of Super Bowl history.

Teams that wear white jerseys in the Super Bowl are 37-22, and the Patriots are 4-2 themselves when wearing white jerseys.

Sam Darnold Struggles Mightily Against New England

Sam Darnold has resurrected his career over the last two seasons, but there’s still one thing he needs to prove: that he can perform well against the Patriots.

Darnold has nine interceptions, two fumbles and just one touchdown when facing New England, and his teams have averaged a mere 5.8 points per game. Also, Darnold’s infamous “seeing ghosts” game was against the Pats.

Predictably, he's winless in these games, going 0-4.

Travel Routes from New England and Seattle to Santa Clara Favor Patriots

This century, every time the Super Bowl has been played with one team traveling east for the game and the other traveling west, the team traveling west has won.

With the big game being held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Seattle will be traveling east and New England will be traveling west for the matchup.

Super Bowl LX is the Third First Name Super Bowl Matchup Between Head Coaches

If the three strikes surrounding Drake Maye’s name weren’t enough name games for you, then you’re in luck.

With Mike Vrabel and Mike Macdonald squaring off on Sunday, this year’s Super Bowl will become the third Super Bowl where the two head coaches have the same first name.

Coincidentally, in the first two incidents, the head coaches were also both named Mike.
